A month of welcome visitors.

Greeting all,
I guess the title says it all. June was very definitely our busiest month for guests and visitors since our arrival here.

Firstly our dear friends Sue and Phil came up to Singapore for a 3 week holiday, in this time we shopped went to Bangkok, shopped went to Ko Chang, shopped and returned to Singapore, spent a day in Malaysia shopping and had lots of fun and adventures along the way.

Our delightful niece Aysha was the next visitor, she came all they way from London, to spend time with her mamoo and mamee. (Uncle and Aunty). Aysha and I went to Kuala Lumpar for 4 days, as she was keen to get a dose of the culture and cuisine of our nearest neighbour.

We also very happy to have a Brian, our pal from our Ruby Lips wine tasting group, join us for a .
delicious black pepper crab at the infamous Jumbo Seafood at East Coast Park.
I feel tired just thinking about all the frenzied activity.

I will share with you all some edited highlights.

Sue and Phil and I spent a day at the fantastic Singapore zoo. Sue and I shopped at Little India, and enjoyed a tasty and cheap curry at the Banana Leaf restaurant.

Bangkok was a little overwhelming for us all even Kafil and I who consider ourselves, seasoned
travellers. We arrived in the bustling Khe Sanh road late at night, the street was alive with backpackers, spruikers, market stalls, and loads of rowdy pubs and clubs.

Bangkok is a huge urban sprawl, and it was difficult to get a sense of our bearings as it is such a huge metropolis. Needless to say we spent a whole day at the enormous Chatuchak weekend market.

The market covers some 28 hectares, and the goods on sale included the usual handcrafts and souvenirs, as well as a whole aisle of clothing and accessories for your pampered pooch. There was a great section of original artworks mainly paintings and sculptures. However as usual I was overwhelmed and tempted by the array of silver and semi precious stone jewellery.

We went on a cruise along the river where we snapped photos of temples and more temples.

The weather was stifling hot, and no relief from the humidity of Singapore.

We ate seafood, sampled drinks from the extensive cocktail list and delicious and enjoyed the tasty cuisine of Thailand, we never tire of it!

And then on to Ko Chang- an island paradise just 4 hours east by road from Bangkok. Ko Chang is the 2nd largest Thai island and is pristine beaches with an interior of lush mountainous National Park.
We shared a delightful villa whose patio overlooked the beautiful clean sweep of beach. Masseuses and manicurists were a short hop away from our hotel. The pool bar was magnificent and we succumbed to an afternoon of divine cocktails at the pool bar.

We trekked on elephants thru the jungle admiring the landscape and the passing tropical butterflies.

I foolishly chose to swim with the elephant, a scary but worthwhile time clinging on to the back of the elephant bare back and in my bathers. (not a pretty sight).

However one to be talked about for times to come.

We snorkelled amongst colorful reefs, and admired secluded islands with swaying palm trees.

Poor Kafil stood on a spiny sea urchin and was suffering for days.

And then back to Singapore, walks along the river, Mexican food and drinks at Changi Village. It was great to show old and valued friends around and enjoy so many good times together.

Aysha arrived next.

She and I spent days wandering around Singapore, exploring the Arab quarter, eating halal food in the oldest restaurant Zam Zams talking and laughing.
Off to fish feet therapy and many other fun times.

Then off to KL for four days, we walked miles and miles admiring the sights and sounds of the older areas of the city.

We explored the National Mosque and Islamic Museum, to admire the fabulous mosaics, and models of all the most impressive mosques in the world.

Aysha and I drew lots of interested looks, we are such a contrast young and old, white and brown, scarfed and non scarfed. It made us both laugh out loud at how people reacted to us!

We also took Aysha to check out Sentosa and the southernmost point of mainland Asia.

Singapore claims this of an island off Sentosa as it connected to Singapore by a bridge and Singapore itself is connected to the mainland by a bridge.

Pretty tenuous link really.

Aysha left us to visit her friends and Dubai, and we were left with a very empty and quiet house.

We now have a quieter month ahead, but look forward to our next visitors and new places to explore.
